Bit Bazaar

Bit Bazaar is not an obvious, easy to find location. On the contrary, although it has several different entrances, the main plaza is surrounded by tall buildings thus making it difficult to be seen. Bit Bazaar is relatively popular, especially among young people.

Tositsas str. Antique Shops

Back in 1928 when thousands of immigrants from Asia Minor settled in this part of the city, a number of buildings were constructed in order for the housing needs to be covered. Most of them had small shops on the ground floor. During the last decades several of them were used as antique shops as the whole place was being used as a market. Some of these still exist and offer many interesting and sometimes rare items.

Snake Column

It is one of the few surviving Hellenistic monuments in Thessaloniki(400-600 BC). The legend says that once upon a time during the Turkish occupation in the last century, the area was filled with snakes, which were observed to gather around it as if they had been emerged from its depths. Snakes indicated the presence of evil in those times. That's how it got the name "Column of the Snakes".

Ano Poli (Old Town)

Our apartment is on the fringes of Ano Poli. Ano Poli is one of the most traditional areas in Thessaloniki. The area preserves much of the Byzantine and Ottoman era city design which was largely destroyed elsewhere in the city in the Great Fire of 1917. It is known for its small stone-paved streets, old squares, and houses in traditional Greek and Ottoman architecture. Ano Poli is the highest part of the city and is dominated by the city's acropolis, a Byzantine and Ottoman era fort known as the Eptapyrgio.
